People’s Self Help Housing qualifies for more than $300,000 to support development of new single-family homes. – People’s Self-Help Housing has qualified for two impactful loans from the Housing Assistance Council (HAC). These funds, totaling more than $300,000, will support the development of new single-family homes in Nipomo and San Miguel as part of PSHH’s nationally recognized Self-Help Home Ownership program.

– Highlights from the Paso Robles City Council meeting held on May 17, as sent by the city, are as follows. The city has returned to hybrid public meetings pursuant to AB 361, which allows for a deviation from the teleconference rules required by the Ralph M. Brown Act. Residents now have the option to attend the meeting in person or to participate remotely.

Orientation meeting offered both in-person and online. – The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education is facilitating an orientation for members of the public interesting in serving as elected school trustees (board members). – The City of Paso Robles is in the process of seeking a “spaceport” designation for the municipal airport and the concept is getting support from Cal Poly and technology companies. After presenting the Paso Robles Air and Spaceport concept at Cal Poly’s CubeSat Developers Conference, the city signed two Letters of Intent to partner in support of spaceport activities – from Cal Poly and Stellar Explorations.

– Four more community members have died from COVID-19 as cases and hospitalizations increase in San Luis Obispo, according to the San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department. More than 500 San Luis Obispo County residents have died from COVID-19 in total. The four most recent deaths were people ranging in age from their 70s to their 90s, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in SLO County to 501. This milestone comes as the California Department of Public Health reports the loss of more than 90,000 Californians to COVID-19 and the United States reports more than 1 million COVID-19 deaths.

The “Three Picketeers” came to Paso Robles Nacimiento Dam early yesterday morning in the form of members of the International Teamsters Union who threw up what one official of the International Union of Operating Engineers described as “an authorized picket line.” No one at the dam site was able to come up with a reason for the mystery picket line.

– Intermediate crafters will enjoy the challenge of creating a macramé basket based on the design of Home Decoration Love on June 11 with the Paso Robles Library. A Zoom meetup will be held from 6-7 p.m. Using the simple square knot, this basket can be used to hold any number of small items and will complement the décor in any room.

Many positions are available to fill due to vacation schedules. “Our volunteers are core to the success of our mission to end homelessness in our community,” said Wendy Lewis, president/CEO of ECHO, “Volunteers come to us with the desire to give back to the community and are surprised at just how rewarding it is. Many of them tend to form life-long friendships with other volunteers and typically become regulars in a variety of volunteer positions.”

Hart Winery is located in Temecula, Calif. – Halter Ranch Vineyard and Winery in Paso Robles has announced the acquisition of Hart Winery in Temecula, California. The sale includes its 8-acre vineyard, winery, and tasting room located in the Temecula Valley Wine Country AVA. Founded in 1973 by Temecula Valley wine pioneers, Joe and Nancy Hart, Hart Winery remains the oldest family-owned and operated winery producing limited-production wines.

– Cuesta College celebrates its 57th graduating class with a drive-through commencement ceremony on Friday, May 20, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo campus. This year’s ceremony honors the accomplishments of 1,646 graduating students, the most in Cuesta College history. A total of 2,452 degrees are awarded this year, including 1,327 associate in arts, 332 associate in science, 458 associate in arts for transfer, and 335 associate in science for transfer. Cuesta College offers 47 associate degree programs and 36 transfer degrees, providing students with a clear pathway into the California State University system.
