Stargazing event coming to the Teton Valley
June 3 will bring a unique opportunity to Teton Valley residents as Wyoming Stargazing and the City of Driggs will hold a stargazing event.
Participants are encouraged to meet up the night of June 3 at 410 E. Opal Ave. in Driggs. The plan is to begin the event at 9:30 p.m. and view the stars until shortly after midnight. Multiple telescopes will be provided, and it is recommended that participants dim their lights upon arrival to not blind others.

Community volunteers needed to help build set for musical production
POCATELLO — Members of the community are invited to help with Idaho State University’s production of “Urinetown: The Musical.”. On Saturday, May 28, and Tuesday, May 31, from 2 to 4 p.m., the production crew is looking for help in the ISU theatre shop, on the stage, and in the costume shop. Anyone who lends a hand will also get their name in the printed program. Volunteers are asked to meet in the Bistline Theatre of the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Brady Chapel Centennial Celebration and Open House 100 year anniversary Memorial Day
POCATELLO — One of the most well-known pieces of Pocatello’s history will be celebrating 100 years since its dedication. The Friends of the Brady Chapel and the Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission will be hosting the Brady Chapel’s Centennial Celebration and Open House at the chapel, located in Mountain View Cemetery Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bodies of two people were recently recovered from the Bear Lake and the Snake River in two unrelated incidents, authorities said.
The body of a man was found Monday in Bear Lake. The Rich County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Kyle Dean Walker, 31, but did not indicate his town of residence.

POCATELLO — Sundt Construction and its joint venture partner Cannon Builders were recently awarded the Interstate 86 (I-86) and Interstate 15 (I-15) System Interchange reconstruction project for the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) near Pocatello.

Former Idaho Falls mayor dies at 60
Former Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman died Sunday, the City of Idaho Falls announced Monday.
Fuhriman was 60 years old and served as the city’s mayor from 2006 to 2014. He also previously worked with the city’s police department.
Fuhriman was diagnosed with memory cognitive impairment in 2011 during his second term as mayor, and he lived with Alzheimer's disease until his death.
“Mayor Fuhriman served our community to the best of his ability and had a way of making everyone around him feel good with his friendly and reassuring demeanor," said current Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper in a city Facebook post.

Two people rescued from American Falls Reservoir after wind capsizes sailboat
AMERICAN FALLS — Two people required rescue on Sunday afternoon when their boat capsized on the American Falls Reservoir.
The Power County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a small sailboat that capsized due to the high winds around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
Both occupants of the sailboat, whom authorities are not naming, were wearing life jackets when the boat capsized and they were able to swim to a nearby shore.
The Power County Search and Rescue team located the two people on the shore and safely transported them back to the docking area using a rescue boat.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
New coffee shop to open in Pocatello
POCATELLO — Gate City Coffee is set to open in Historic Downtown Pocatello on June 1.
Bill and Elaine Kelvie began the process of opening the business in early February.
Bill said the two have spent the last few months remodeling the building at 320 W. Center St. They have incorporated many pictures of Historic Downtown Pocatello in their shop.

Burrows, Helen Faye
Burrows Helen Faye Burrows Helen Fay Burrows passed away at her home on May 22, 2022. She was born to Marvin and Helen Tolman in July of 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho. Helen graduated from Pocatello High School in 1956 and married her lifetime sweetheart, Darrell Edwards Burrows. She was always active in LDS Church Activities from Primary to Young Adult programs to Relief Society. Helen helped Darrell raise six children who were active in sports, church, scouts, and school activities, and also taught them all to fish. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Darrell Burrows, along with sons Mike and Craig Burrows. Helen is survived by her children Kim (Randy) McCaroll, Jeffrey Burrows, David Burrows, Douglas (Jackie) Burrows; as well as 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Wilks Funeral Home, with a Graveside to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. ISU building dedicated to former university president, first lady
POCATELLO — Former Idaho State University president Richard L. Bowen and first lady Connie Smith Bowen have been immortalized on the university’s Pocatello campus, with their names now affixed on a sign above the Rendezvous Center.
The sign, which labels the building the “Richard L. Bowen and Connie S. Bowen Rendezvous Center,” was recently installed. A dedication event was held last week to dedicate the building in the Bowens’ honor.

SICOG — city of Pocatello awarded funding for EPA Brownfield Projects
POCATELLO — On May 12, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $2.25 million dollars of funding that was awarded to revitalize communities in Idaho. This investment will help revitalize and clean up brownfield sites across Idaho into hubs of economic growth and job creation. Of the $2.25 million dollar award, $500,000 was awarded to the city of Pocatello for a Brownfields Assessment Grant and $1 million was awarded to the Southeast Idaho Council of Governments Inc. for a Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund.
