CAL FIRE EYES CAMP FOX FOR NEW FIRE CENTER
May 24, 2022 (Palomar Mountain) -County Fire and CAL FIRE are working to turn a sixth-grade camp site at the base of Palomar Mountain into a fire center to train new firefighters. Today, a board letter from Supervisor Jim Desmond recommended the County finalize an agreement with CAL FIRE to use the Camp Fox site as a wildland firefighting base. The Camp Fox property was owned by the County, but transferred to the San Diego County Office of Education in 1977. It is now transferring back to the County.

EAST COUNTY JPA BEGINS PROCESS TO TAKE SAN DIEGO PUMP STATION
The station, at the western edge of Santee and used only a few times a year by San Diego for sewage overflows, was supposed to be sold to the East County joint powers authority (JPA) in advance of the AWP project beginning construction this summer. The deal was on track to be completed last year, but San Diego delayed the final transfer for months, causing the JPA to take initial legal steps to invoke its eminent domain powers to essentially “take” the property.

May 22, 2022 (Lemon Grove) – The 2022 Point in Time Count of homeless people reveals some shocking statistics. While countywide the rate rose 10% from January 2020 to January 2022, in San Diego’s unincorporated areas the number was up 540.7% to a total of 173 individuals. The numbers also soared in several East County communities including Lemon Grove (up 72.2% to 31 individuals), El Cajon (up 68.8% to 1,308 people), and Santee (up 488% to 147), Lakeside (up 162.5% to 63 people). Some communities fared better; Spring Valley had 38.1% fewer homeless people (60) and La Mesa held relatively steady, up just 1.9%, and Alpine had just one person homeless person identified.

BOIL WATER ORDER ISSUED FOR WARNER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WATER SYSTEM
Test results show drinking water supply is present for E. coli and Total Coliform Bacteria. The County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) has issued a Boil Water Order for Warner Unified School District water system at 30951 Highway 79, Warner Springs. Only the main campus is impacted by the boil water order, not the resource center and ball fields located across the highway from the campus. The water system serves a daily population of 150 people, consisting of students and staff of Warner Unified School District (kindergarten through 12th grade).
