AUSTIN (KXAN) — Daily rain chances continue today through Friday with the main event likely to come this weekend. However, the weekend may not be a washout. New model data indicates the heaviest rain may hold off until sometime Saturday afternoon through the early morning Sunday, with drier cooler weather Sunday afternoon.

There is a low risk of a shower or thunderstorm Wednesday night, mainly in the Hill Country. If storms develop, the severe storm threat is also low, but includes the possibility of some quarter size hail and wind gusts near 60 mph.

Thursday holds a slightly higher rain chance due to a cold front north of us and a dryline west of us throwing a few storms our way. A low risk of severe storms exists mainly in our northern and western counties. Threats include large hail and damaging winds.

Low risk of severe storms late Thursday
Level 1 or 2 severe weather risk (out of 5) for most of us Thursday evening and night.

Spotty to scattered storms are possible again Friday ahead of a much more active day on Saturday. A strong cold front, in combination with a passing disturbance, will bring the potential for widespread heavy rain to most of our area. Models indicate 2-4 inches of rain will be possible in some areas, which could trigger a Flash Flood Warning or two.

Heavy rain looking more likely Saturday into early Sunday
Slight risk (2 out of 5) of localized flooding for all of our area on Saturday

Showers and storms are likely to linger into the early part of our Sunday before drier and breezy conditions take over late day.

The cold front will not be subtle. We go from highs in the upper 70s on Saturday to the upper 60s Sunday. Morning lows Sunday and Monday will be in the low to mid 50s.
