AUSTIN (KXAN) — While Friday turned out to be a beautiful day, we are still forecasting widespread rain and thunderstorms this weekend, but not all weekend.

Friday evening should be mostly dry and pleasant, but overnight, low clouds, light fog, mist and even a few rain showers will increase and be present much of the day Saturday. As the evening approaches, widespread rain and thunderstorms will begin in the Hill Country then spread across the Austin metro area early in the evening, moving steadily into our eastern counties Saturday night.

There is a low risk of severe storms on Saturday (1 out of 5)

Our area has been placed in the marginal risk category for a severe storm Saturday, with quarter size hail or a damaging wind gust to 60 mph possible in any isolated severe storms that develop.

Rainfall projections have come down with most areas getting anywhere from 0.5″-1.5″, but localized 2-3″ amounts will be possible in spots. A localized flash flood threat continues on Saturday, but most of the rain should be beneficial and not troublesome. Just be careful travelling Saturday night and watch for roads covered in water. Remember, “turn around, don’t drown!”

Sunday is trending mainly dry under a mostly to partly cloudy sky. The passage of the cold front will make for a much cooler and windy day with highs only in the 60s. Some late day sun is possible, but clouds will dominate.

Weekend forecast

Temperatures next week warm back to the 80s with another chance of rain by Friday.
