AUSTIN (KXAN) — A damp and cool afternoon to finish the work week with heavy rain still on track for the weekend.

A few spots of sprinkles/drizzle/light rain may mix in with today’s mainly cloudy skies. A cold front sagging over the area will result in a wide variety of high temperatures. Some afternoon highs will be limited to the 60s for parts of the Hill Country, whereas areas southeast of Austin may reach the low 80s later today. We expect Austin ends up somewhere in the middle closer to the mid 70s.

Saturday morning and early afternoon will trend damp at times with most of the daylight hours featuring mainly cloudy skies and a few pockets of rain.

Heavy rain and isolated storms are more likely as we get into Saturday evening and night.

There is a low risk of severe storms on Saturday (1 out of 5)

Rainfall projections have come down with most areas getting anywhere from 0.5″-1.5″, but localized 2-3″ amounts will be possible in spots.

A localized flash flood threat continues on Saturday, but most of the rain should be beneficial and not troublesome. Just be careful travelling Saturday night and watch for roads covered in water. Remember, “turn around, don’t drown!”

Sunday is trending mainly dry under a mostly to partly cloudy sky. The passage of the cold front will make for a much cooler day with highs only in the 60s. Some late day sun is possible, but clouds and a cool breeze will dominate.
