    Rain chances going up as temperatures briefly come down

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — This day dawned with sunshine and increasing clouds. More clouds will be seen this afternoon with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Forecast models once again shows that much of the rain will be near that stationary front draped over the Hill Country.

    Any storms that do fire up will remain below severe criteria. However, the Weather Prediction Center does have the Hill Country in a Marginal risk (Category 1 of 4) of flooding today and tonight.

    Labor Day

    Rain chances for the final day of the holiday weekend go up to 70% with more of a heavy rain threat, particularly for the Hill Country, where a Slight risk (Category 2 of 4) of flooding is forecast.

    Rain chances drop from Tuesday to Friday. For now, next Saturday and Sunday are bright and dry with most highs in the lower half of the 90s.

    Temperatures take a dip into the 80s tomorrow through Wednesday, then return to the lower half of the 90s to end the week.

    Tropics

    The low in the northwest Gulf of Mexico is still producing showers and thunderstorms along and just offshore of the upper Texas coast. Forecasts show this low loitering off the coast for a few days with only a 20% chance of development into a tropical depression in the next seven days.
