Police: Amityville man found with gunshot wound dies in Wantagh

Police say a 32-year-old Amityville man who was found with a gunshot wound Wednesday in Wantagh has died. According to detectives, officers responded to Wayside Lane for an aided person. Upon arrival, officers located the man on the side of the road around 12:13 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kevin Purcell told News 12 he was coming home from work just after midnight when he saw a running car with the lights on. He said he found it odd that it was just sitting there running, so he approached and that's when he said he saw "legs out in the street." Multiple neighbors told News 12 they heard what they believe now to be the gun going off, but at the time thought it was loud cars. Some residents said there have been problems in this area in the past, with drug deals happening on the block, which is close to the parkway. The victim has not been publicly identified and no arrest has been made. "
