On Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17, the Newport Parks and Recreation Department (NPRD) will host a fundraiser and demonstration excursion to benefit a new mobility trach chair program that will allow universal access to Nye Beach.
The department says on Friday, the benefit will take place at the Newport Elks Lodge from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. NPRD says the fundraiser will go towards the purchase of a mobility track chair that will be placed a Nye Beach, and will assist with future upgrades and maintenance costs.
NPRD says Friday's event will include free food, music, and a chance to the meet with the David's Chair organization. Event goers will get a chance to learn about the new program, participate in a silent auction and more.
On Saturday, the demonstration excursion will take place at Nye Beach, where the community will have an opportunity to see the mobility track chairs in action, says NPRD. Four 6-track chairs will be on hand for the public to try. The chairs will be located at the Nye Beach Turnaround from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Both events are open to the public.
