Powell wins three events and runs on a relay to lead Jefferson

NEWPORT – Katie Powell won three individual events and ran on a winning relay to lead Jefferson’s girls to an 81-47 victory over St. Mary Catholic Central Tuesday.

The junior ruled the 100 and 200 meters along with the long jump and anchored the winning 800 relay.

Layla Tahmouch (throws) was a double winner for the Bears.

Also taking events were Alyssa Masserant (400), Jenna Pilachowski (1,600), Riley Peer (3,200) and Mia Schroeder (low hurdles).

SMCC’s winners were Bella LaFountain (800), MaryAlice Lynch (high hurdles) and Mckenna Payne (high jump).

Jefferson captured the boys meet 89-38 as Orion Galloway (800, 1,600), Michael Armetta (hurdles), Tyler Swinkey (throws) and Ben Merkel (high jump, long jump) all won two events each.

Willam Steinhour (3,200) and Nolan West also finished first for the Bears.

Drew Harris took the 100 and 200 for SMCC.

TRACK AND FIELD

Saline overpowers Monroe

MONROE – Saline rolled over Monroe Tuesday. The boys won 60-9 and the girls posted a 61-16 win.

Monroe’s Corinna Aulph won the girls high jump (4-10). The Trojan girls got seconds from Kendall Gunter (discus) and Claire Charnock (long jump) and a third from Alexandra Butler (long jump).

Andrew Foshag took second in the 1,600 and Teegan Simmons was the runner-up in the high hurdles for Monroe’s boys.

Wright leads Marauders

WOODHAVEN – Izaiah Wright won the 100 (11.29) and 200 (22.61) and also anchored the winning 400 relay to lead Gibraltar Carlson to a 78-58 win over Woodhaven Tuesday.

Carlson swept the 3,200 with Nate Lawe (11:13), Collin Jaskula and Benjamin Ciesielski, Mason Spaulding and Daniel Pak went 1-2 in the 800 and Brandon Stanley placed first in the high jump (5-6).

Maraya Finklea led the girls, winning the 200 (28.2) and taking third in the 400 (1:08) in a 97-31 loss.

Summerfield rules relays

DEERFIELD – Summerfield’s girls team crushed Jackson Prep 123-4 and Britton Deerfield 103-24 Tuesday

The Bulldogs took all four relays, including the team of Bethany Suydam, Bridget Salenbien, Sophia Stanger and Emma Jacob winning both the 400 (57:74) and 800 (2:01).

Summerfield also swept the high jump with Makenzie Wolfe (4-4), Bridget Salenbien and Grace Raymond (4-0) and the long jump with Bethany Suydam (14-2), Grace Raymond and Cameron Taylor.

The boys topped Jackson Prep 95-42 and Britton Deerfield 87-49.

Benjamin Gault won both hurdle races, Teddy Gault ruled the high jump and long jump and Brody St. John was first in the 800 (2:25). Colin Brown had a strong meet.

Milan’s Johnson shines

RIVERVIEW – Adam Jonson won both the 400 and 200, and anchored the winning 800 relay with Nolan Matley, Gavin Tomecek and Virgil Gruwez-Guinet to lead Milan to a 75-53 win over Riverview Tuesday.

Gruwez-Guinet also took first place in the 100, while anchoring the 400 relay of Matley, Noah Bussell and Tomecek.

Final relay lifts Huron

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron’s girls track team needed the final event of the day to squeeze out a 65-63 victory over Airport Tuesday..

The 1,600 relay of Brielle Musallam, Savanah Rupnow, Falyn  Doss and Avery Turk won in 4:33.

“It’s always exciting with them coming down the stretch, so to win that way really added to that excitement,” coach Don Morris said. “It’s always fun to win in that fashion.”

Huron swept the discus with Mackenzie Whitehill (70-9) winning and Cora Slovik and Angel Sly taking the next two spots.

Airport went 1-2-3 in the 100, 200, and high hurdles. Ryleigh Dicks (15.54) Grace Post and Alyvea Lappo were the top three in the 100, Post (34.43), Ayva Hunger and Olivia Muszynski dominated the 200 and Sydney Mason (17.79), Isabell Mulvin and Natalie Kuti did the same in the hurdles.

Hunter Mihal led the Huron boys to an 84-44 victory, winning the 100 (12.18), 200 (23.93) and 400 (53.14).

Matt Foor won the shot put (50-10) and discus (169-7) for the Jets.

Stanislawski goes distance

FLAT ROCK – Jacob Stanislawski won the three longest events of the say to lead Flat Rock’s boys to a 75-53 victory over Grosse Ile Tuesday.

Caleb Rollins (200, 400) and Isaac Arredondo (throws) also were double innings for the Rams, who also got firsts from Jacob Hagan in the 100 and the 400 and 3,200 relays.

Reagan Higdon won the 100, 200 and 400 meters and Keola Botts ruled both throws, but the girls fell 65-62.

The Rams took the 3,200 with Kayle Babowicz and the 1,600 relay with Sophia Chan, Sophia Durfee, Aileen McNamara, and Arianna Hoover.

Whiteford sharp

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford’s boys dominated Lenawee Christian 106-26 Tuesday.

Keegan Masters (800, 1,600), Zach Kahn (3,200, low hurdles) and Liam Waterford (discus, high jump) and the Bobcats won the 400 relay  (Brandon Knaggs, Antonio Nachtrab, Ryin Ruddy and Jess Saylor) by two-tenths of a second with a time of 46.98.

The girls won 82-53 behind double winners Annabelle Gapp (hurdles), Rylie DeSilvis (high jump, long jump) and Kenzie Gray (throws).

Nastles lead Mason

SAND CREEK – Landon Nastle won all of his events to to lead Erie Mason’s boys to a wins over Sand Creek (88-49) and Morence (121-16) Tuesday.

He won the 100 (11.71), 200 (23.26), 400 (52.9) and the long jump (19-05).

Guiliana Nastle won the 100 (13.60) and 200 (27.50), leading the girls to wins Sand Creek 90-47 and Morenci 104-32. Other top performers for the Eagles were Abbigail England, Elizabeth Lambert, Audrey Trainor, Paige Konrad, Beth Sweeney, Bailey Meiring and Mikaela Graves.

Carlson’s Skinner shines

TRENTON – Addison Skinner went 4-for-5 and earned the pitching win as Gibraltar Carlson clipped Trenton 10-5 in a Downriver League game Tuesday

Kara Ludy, Kiley Lewandowski, Izzy Salas, Taylor Konkus and Lauren Dunwoody recorded two hits each for the 5-1 Marauders.

Clinton sweeps Ida

IDA – Jessica Schrader collected three hits for Ida, but the Blue Streaks were swept 13-2 and 12-2 by Clinton Tuesday.

Doane fights off injury

DUNDEE – Lauren Doane returned from a hand injury to toss a four-hitter, leading Dundee to an 8-2 victory over Blissfield in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

The Vikings committed seven errors in dropping the opener 6-4.

Kennedy Irwin, Natalie Rath and Ella Rath led the offense for the 4-3 Vikings.

Milan shows power

MILAN – Home runs by Tierra Ronayne and Virginia Heikka carried Milan to a 5-3 win over Flat Rock Tuesday.

Mariah Stines earned the pitching win.

“We had a great defensive performance by freshman second baseman Georgia Linzell,” Milan coach Kirk Davis said. “It was good to secure another big win early in the season."

Ida offense quiet

IDA – Ida’s bats went quiet Tuesday in a 5-2 loss to Clinton Tuesday.

The 2-5 Blue Streaks managed just five hits.

Dundee, Blissfield split

DUNDEE – Chris LaFountain’s two-run single in the third inning was the key hit as Dundee nipped Blissfield 6-5 Tuesday.

Cooper Buhl, Ryan Zanger and Jay Hickey also drove in runs. Joey Brink threw out the potential tying run at second base to end the game.

The Vikings dropped the first game of the doubleheader 3-1. Cam Fairchild and Ethan Layton pitched well for the 5-2 Vikings.

Huron stops Bedford

TEMPERANCE – Madden Mosley scored off an assist from Elizabeth Klocek in Bedford’s 4-1 loss to Ann Arbor Huron Tuesday.

Vuich is medalist

MONROE – Drew Vuich was medalist with 44 and Thomas Rivard added a 46, but St. Mary Catholic Central fell 186-188 to Blissfield Monday at Monroe Golf & Country Club.

Carlson posts shutout

GIBRALTAR – Gibraltar Carlson ran its record to 3-0-1 with an 8-0 win over Lincoln Park Tuesday.

Addy Brake, Erin Riley, Rylie Sulewski and Julie Mitchell swept singles while Delaney Boller-Brooklyn Roldan, Lila Angelos-Madison Jacobs, Necole Sendry-Sarah Pente and Anna Van Holten/Brianna Helke logged doubles wins.

Doubles save Bedford

TEMPERANCE – A sweep of the doubles by Lauren Werbiansky-Lucy Conlan, Audrey Dillon-Dorothy Dillon, Maddie Armstrong-Grace Deimers and Paige Anderson-Alivia Brown carried Bedford to a 5-3 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln Tuesday.

Megan Kopaniasz pulled out a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 win at No. 4 singles.

SMCC blanks Airport

MONROE – St. Mary Catholic Central swept Airport 8-0 Tuesday as Molly Blanchett, Analiese Flint, Elizabeth Zwack and Avery Yaeger swept the singles and Claire Leach-Hannah Borer, Ionna Laskaska-Mikayla Camilleri, Gianna Benvenuto-Jasmine Paquette and Addison Boylan-Isabelle Fitzpatrick did the same in doubles.

Milan wins three setters

MILAN – No. 4 singles player Alaina Brubaker and the No. 3 doubles team of Rylee Kennedy-Maya Grimley pulled out three-set wins to help Milan trip Riverview 6-2 Tuesday.

Depth carries SMCC

MONROE – Injuries and illness left St. Mary Catholic Central shorthanded Tuesday, but six first-year players stepped up to lead the Falcons past Woodhaven 7-3.

“This season has started out rough, injuries and illnesses have been frequent,” SMCC coach Frank Giarmo said. “Unfortunately, it’s most of my experienced players out, too. Thankfully we’ve got some first-year players – Trent Zachel, Gabe Angove, and freshmen Drew Kettinger, Bennett Schafer, Landon Barron, and Tyler St. Pierre – who are stepping up too fill some big positions.”

Paul Laboe scored four goals and William Craiger, Owen Mackin, Andrew Beggs and Ben Carter chipped in one each.
