Work truck scorches apartment complex in Warrick County

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An unfinished three-story apartment building will need major work after a fire broke out and destroyed part of the building Wednesday morning.

Around 11 a.m., firefighters responded to the Bell Pointe Apartments in Warrick County, which sits across the street from the Newburgh Walmart.

Authorities determined a work truck likely ignited the fire and further spread it into the apartment complex under construction.

“We were dispatched to a vehicle fire, but considering smoke conditions and where dispatch told us the vehicle was, we upgraded to a commercial structure fire and called for a box alarm,” says Ohio Township Fire Dpt. Battalion Chief Nichols. “We arrived to a commercial vehicle next to a three-story apartment building with [fire] extension to the building. Rescue 64 pulled two handlines and knocked the vehicle fire down.”

The Ohio Township Fire Department says crews were able to keep the fire under control with the help of the Newburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Chandler Volunteer Fire Department.

“We’re happy to report no one was injured and also want to thank Scott Township for mutual aid,” says an OTFD spokesperson on social media.

We’re told crews searched the building to make sure it was clear and also checked for more spots potentially scorched by the fire.
