Strom Thurmond softball visited Saluda for an elimination game in the South Carolina Class-AA State Softball Tournament. In the top of the third with the Rebels up 1-0, Leigh Anne Strock - who entered the game hitting .468 - drives home another run. Later on, Rebels up 4-1 Strock strikes again to make it 5-1. After that it was all up to Madison Rodrigues, who entered the game with 1.72 ERA. She managed to go the distance earning her 13th win of the year.

The Laurens Raiders scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-6 win over the Easley Green Wave and advance to the AAAA state championship. Laurens won the first two games of the best-of-three series to secure the win and make it to their first state championship since 1990.
Crowell gets multiple first place finishes at LR Last Chance Meet
HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program participated in the LR Last Chance Meet in Lenoir-Rhyne over the weekend. Senior thrower Kegan Crowell took first place in Discus and Hammer Throw. In the discus throw Crowell’s 50.58-meter (165 feet 11inch) toss beat out the second-place thrower by 11 meters. In the hammer throw, Crowell’s 51.48-meter (168 feet 10 inches) throw gave him his second first place finish of the afternoon.
'Armed and dangerous' suspect wanted in weekend shooting arrested, Batesburg-Leesville police say
BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — An 18-year-old who was wanted in connection with a weekend shooting in Batesburg-Leesville has been arrested, according to police. He had been considered 'armed and dangerous' by police. Police say Da’Jae Wigfall was arrested in connection with the shooting that occurred on May 10, 2024.
