1 killed, 1 injured in shooting next to Newark park, cops say

One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Newark on Sunday night, officials said.

Siddiq Amin Hooper, 44, of Newark and another man were shot at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of South Munn Avenue and Plymouth Street — next to Vailsburg Park, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Hooper was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later while the other victim was in stable condition at an area hospital, authorities said.

No arrests have been made.
