Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received an invitation to spend Christmas at Althorp House — the childhood home of his late mother, Princess Diana, according to a report.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been back in the UK for the festive season since the royal family’s gathering at Sandringham in 2018.
However, since quitting royal life in 2020 and moving to the US, Harry has stayed in close contact with his late mother’s side of the family, specifically his uncle Charles Spencer.
“Charles [Spencer] has invited Harry, Meghan and the children to Althorp this Christmas,” a source told the Express . “It’s far too early to say whether they will take him up on it, but the offer is there if they want it.”
Should the Sussexes and their two children — Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet — decide to make the 5,396-mile journey from Montecito, Calif., to Althorp in England, it will be the first time the “Suits” alum has set foot on Harry’s soil since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
What’s more, Harry and Meghan have not yet received an invitation from the royals for Christmas at Sandringham this year, but according to the insider, it’s unlikely that the duo would accept.
“There hasn’t been an invitation extended to Sandringham just yet, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one forthcoming,” the source said.
“It would be highly unlikely if there was an invitation extended [to Sandringham] and I don’t think they [the Sussexes] would take them up on it anyway.”
The estate is his late mother’s final resting place.
The late Princess of Wales, who died at age 36 on Aug. 31, 1997, was laid to rest on the island in the middle of Round Oval Lake at Althorp.
Harry has maintained a close relationship with the Spencer family over the years.
He met up with Diana’s brother Charles and sister Lady Jane Fellowes, 67, in May during the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games in London.
The duke was pictured hugging the pair as they arrived at St. Paul’s Cathedral for the event. However, Harry did not meet up with any members of the royal family during the three-day trip.
