Alabama-born Charles Barkley believes that New York City is overrated. Except for its famed street meat, that is.

While speaking about the New York Knicks Game 2 victory over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Chuck went on one of his classic tangent tirades as he railed against the Big Apple for being overrated and New Yorkers for thinking they’re the best thing since sliced bread.

“I don’t care who wins [between the Knicks and Pacers], but I’ll tell you what — I would love to see them [the Knicks] get their a– stomped by the Celtics. That’d be great,” Barkley said.

“Yeah, because the New Yorkers, y’all deserve it, “because y’all think y’all [are] the greatest thing since sliced bread. Come on, y’all ain’t that good in New York! Y’all overrated. Just because y’all make good pizza and good bagels?”

The basketball Hall of Famer did reserve praise for one aspect of the City That Never Sleeps, however, and that was its famed street-meat carts that line the city streets.

“I ain’t gonna say nothing bad about the street meat. I love the street meat. I don’t care what kind of meat it is, either. It tastes good. Rat, dog, cat, skunk, raccoon — it tastes good. Just put that white sauce on it.”

Barkley analysis of New York City is certainly ironic considering that he’s from Alabama, which does not rank above #19 in ANY of the major state rankings and is in the bottom six in three of the eight categories.

According to US NewsBarkley’s home state of Alabama, where he also attended college at Auburn University, has a median income of $36,953 and is ranked #28 in Crime, #32 in Economy, #45 in Education, #19 in Fiscal Stability, #44 in Health Care, #36 in Infrastructure, #47 in Natural Environment, and #31 in Opportunity.
