Disgusting reason fan Nicolas Malvagna gave to cops after his arrest for throwing phone at Bebe Rexha’s head during show

PROSECUTORS say the man charged with assaulting singer Bebe Rexha told cops he did it because he thought it would be amusing.

On Sunday night, Rexha was closing her show at Pier 17 in New York City when she was struck in the face by a phone.

The incident saw her taken to hospital with a black eye and needing several stitches to close up the wound.

A video shared online shows the 33-year-old turning away from the crowd and falling to her knees as she clutched her face.

The New York City Police said that the suspect "intentionally threw" his cell at Rexha.

Nicholas Malvagna who has been charged following the incident allegedly admitted to doing so for his own entertainment.

The 27-year-old is facing two counts of assault, one count of harassment, one count of aggravated harassment, and one count of attempted assault.

Malvagna was arrested around 11pm on Sunday night where he confessed to launching the phone at the singer, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

"I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny," he allegedly told cops.

He has been requested to stay away from the Grammy-nominated vocalist.

Rexha shared an update on her Instagram page on Monday showing two close-up selfies of her injury.

Her face and eye is heavily bruised and she had tape over the cut on her eyebrow which needed three stitches.

She reassured fans by saying: "I'm good."

After the footage of the incident went viral online, fans of Rexha rushed to condemn Malvagna's actions.

One Twitter user said: "Absolutely great show ruined by a fan throwing their phone at @BebeRexha hopefully she is ok after that."

Another posted the footage saying: "This is Bebe Rexha being rushed out of the concert venue here in NYC after someone threw a f****** phone and hit her face as she was leaving the stage.

"We were all having a hell of a good time and so was Bebe, we were all having a blast, I mean who would even do that???

"We hope you're ok @BebeRexha."

At the concert, fans could be heard throwing insults at Malvagna and shouting "That's assault!"

The dog kennel worker is due back in court on July 1 after being let go without bail during an arraignment on Monday.
