Aaron Judge will need 63 home runs to break his own American League record in 2023. He’s off to a decent start, hitting a homer on his first swing of the season.

Yankees Opening Day couldn’t go any better for Judge in his first AB. This offseason, Judge flirted with his hometown Giants before re-signing with the Yankees on a nine-year, $360 million deal. A call with Hal Steinbrenner, and the promise of becoming the next franchise captain, helped seal the deal.

Against Giants ace Logan Webb, it didn’t take Judge long to ring in his new role.

Just as it didn’t take Aaron Judge long to settle in, it also didn’t take long for Yankees fans to celebrate on social media.

But perhaps best of all was John Sterling’s call of the moment. Sterling has been there for so many memorable Yankees plays. Judge’s home run on Opening Day doesn’t even crack his top-50, but it’s just as special.

Judge’s goal this season is simple. With his contract out of the way, Judge wants to win his first World Series. The Houston Astros, among other American League contenders, remain in the way, but this Yankees team got even better in the offseason.

Sure, keeping Judge around will help. So will the addition of Carlos Rodon, a true co-ace to Gerrit Cole when healthy. Anthony Volpe, should he turn into the star so many think he can be, solidifies the shortstop position for a decade to come.

It’s a sunny day in the Bronx, which is fitting for New York’s outlook this season.
