Former New York City basketball star Cormac Ryan is in the transfer portal

Notre Dame guard Cormac Ryan is in the transfer portal, with the former New York City basketball standout eyeing a future that might also include the NBA.

Last week, Ryan entered the transfer portal while also declaring for the NBA draft. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

This past season, Ryan averaged 12.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-5 guard shot 40,9 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from 3-point range. Both numbers were down from the year before as Notre Dame finished the season 11-21.

Ryan will not sign with an agent, therefore keeping his eligibility for a final season of college basketball.

A four-star recruit and part of the 2018 recruiting class, Ryan was a four-star and the No. 68 player in the 247Sports Composite. He originally committed to Stanford before transferring to Notre Dame after one season.

He was recruited by Rutgers but never was offered by the Scarlet Knights. He started his high school career playing for Collegiate Academy before transferring to Milton Academy (Milton, MA).
