NEW YORK, NY – Police in New York City are investigating a subway slashing incident sparked by a commuter asking another to refrain from smoking inside the subway car.
That request escalated into an assault that ended with a 45-year-old man being slashed with a box cutter, according to police.
The attack took place Tuesday night as a southbound A train was entering the Nostrand Avenue subway station the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
The man, according to police approached the unidentified women who were smoking in the train car.
“The victim asked the individuals to stop smoking at which point the individuals displayed a box cutter, and struck the victim in the back of the head with an unknown object,” police said. “The individuals fled out of the subway station in an unknown direction. The victim sustained a laceration to the head and refused medical attention.”
No arrests have been made.
