NEW YORK PIX11) — More than 25,000 runners, including former Olympian Jacob Kiplimo, participated in the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday.
The 13.1-mile race kicked off at 7 a.m. in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and ended in Central Park. The runners battled the blustery winds and chilly temperatures as they raced through Brooklyn and Manhattan to complete the prestigious race.
Kiplimo won the men’s race in 1:01:31 and Hellen Obiri took the women’s title with a time of 1:07:21, beating the women’s record by 14 seconds.
“I feel so happy because it was not an easy race. Compared to last year, the weather was so bad. There was a wind. But I said let me push myself…go faster,” Obiri said.
The event forced dozens of street closures in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
