HS track and field: Sea’s Joey Wilson and Nicolina Siracusa take gold at Eastern State Championships; sophomore relay team sets school-record

It was a strong showing on the track at Iona Prep for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, where the Vikings took gold in three events at the Eastern State Championships over the weekend.

Senior Joey Wilson led the 2,000-meter steeplechase wire to wire in an uncontested time of 6:19.83. Teammates Dylan Doskocil (2nd - 6:21.09) and Cody Doskocil (5th - 6:37.34) earned medals in the event as well.

The sprint medley relay, comprised of four sophomores, won in a time of 3:43.45. James LaMarca (24.5), Luis Quiles (24.4), Jeremy Muccio (52.2) and Matthew Brodsky (2:02.1) knocked nearly three seconds off the Sea sophomore record, which had stood since 2014.

Sea's sprint medley relay team is comprised of four sophomore runners.

Nicolina Siracusa, meanwhile, won the girls’ pole vault -- tying a career best of 8-feet, 6-inches.

The Sea girls 4x200 placed second with in a time of 1:46.78 and senior Victoria Dziubela was third in the mile (5:30.25). Olivia Cowan jumped a personal best of 4-feet, 10-inches in the high jump to earn a fifth place medal.

“I think it was a solid meet overall for us,” said Sea coach Chris Mancusi. “This sophomore boys class is special, having broken twelve outdoor school records this season and I think down the road they can be the best Sea has ever had.”
