Saints coach sends a bold challenge to the rest of the NFL

The New Orleans Saints began their 2024 OTAs this week, and there have been some unique storylines. Adjustments, especially on offense, have stood out.

The Saints made widespread offensive staff changes earlier in the offseason, leading with new OC Klint Kubiak. QB Derek Carr has had great things to say about his new play-caller, and Allen has backed their new assistants at every turn so far.

Saints HC Dennis Allen challenged the rest of the NFL to start game planning for the team's new offense.

The response came after a reported asked if quarterback runs (most likely from Taysom Hill) will be de-emphasized. Allen doesn't expect that at all. He expects to still use Taysom in that sort of role that has been very effective over the years.

There's clear confidence here from the Saints head coach.

Allen also said that the Saints offensive is “getting out of the huddle a little faster” and aren't having “as many re-huddles” since they have been under Klint Kubiak’s offense. It's clear the tempo will be expedited.

Derek Carr will be entering his third season in a row with a new offensive coordinator. That being said, there is a bold feeling around the unit during OTAs in 2024. There don't seem to be a ton of questions because the staff has gotten guys up to speed quite quickly.

The Saints truly believe that they chose to bring in the right coaches for the job to make sure their offensive finds much more consistency. In 2023, their offense sometimes looked like a top 5 unit in the NFC. At other times, they would not pick up multiple first downs for an entire quarter. There was little in between.

Now, the gleaming confidence should put fans in a better head space as the Saints get up to speed under Kubiak this summer. Let's see if Allen's boldness pays off.
