PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Bub Means didn’t get a ton of opportunities in the recent Pitt offense to show off what he could do, but he impressed the Saints enough that he was picked Saturday as a compensatory selection in the fifth round.

It was probably the numbers at the NFL Combine that got him on NFL radars-4.43 40-yard dash, 39.5” vertical jump and even benching 225 pounds 19 times.

On the field, Means is coming off a 41-catch season for 721 yards and six touchdowns, leading the Panthers in yards and TDs. He had a 75-yard TD against Virginia Tech and had 109 yards receiving on nine catches against Wake Forest. There was always this talk of him being almost hidden in a struggling offense. Now the 6’2”, 215-pounder is ready to show what he can do.

“I’m a competitor, every rep I compete,” Means said. “I got to win my one-on-one. I’m trying to dominate the person across from me. That’s what you are getting out of me. It don’t matter the task.”

From the time he came to Pitt, he volunteered, if not begged to play special teams. Even though he was the team’s best receiver, he wanted to make plays on kick units, and probably also knew it’s an avenue to the NFL.

The Georgia native wants to prove that he’s an ‘all around a good football player and a good person too’.

He’ll get that shot in New Orleans.
