TONIGHT, NEW ORLEANS POLICE ARE GIVING NEW DETAILS ABOUT A CRASH INVOLVING CEDRIC RICHMOND, WHO IS A FORMER NEW ORLEANS CONGRESSMAN AND FORMER SENIOR ADVISOR TO PRESIDENT BIDEN. THIS HAPPENED ON APRIL 23RD ON NORTH CLAIBORNE AVENUE AND LAFAYETTE STREET. NOW, POLICE SAY THERE WAS NO SUSPICION OF INTOXICATION. AND OPD TELLS US RICHMOND WAS INSIDE OF AN AMBULANCE UNDERGOING EMERGENCY TREATMENT FOR AN INJURY AND HE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. New Orleans police are giving new details about a car crash involving former New Orleans Congressman Cedric Richmond, a former senior advisor to President Joe Biden.Police say this happened on April 23.WDSU spoke briefly with Richmond by phone."I'm fine, my son is fine, and the police report speaks for itself,” Richmond said.Richmond suffered injuries to his hand, head and hip in the crash and is doing OK. When WDSU first started looking into this story back in April. We asked the New Orleans Police Department if Richmond was cited. NOPD said they did not see anything in their report log. Today police said the following:"On April 23, 2023, the NOPD responded to a single-vehicle crash with injury at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Lafitte Street."As the responding officer in this incident, Officer Mark Miranda stated in his report that he did not detect an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. Therefore, there was no reasonable suspicion of intoxication nor probable cause to conduct tests for impairment."Additionally, the driver was inside of an ambulance undergoing emergency treatment for injury from EMS on scene before being transported to a local hospital."Officer Miranda is assigned to field platoon in the First District. Officers working on the platoon are regularly dispatched to investigate vehicle crash incidents. Officer Miranda’s investigation into this incident meets the standards of the NOPD."Issuance of a citation in a vehicle crash incident is done at the discretion of the officer, based on the findings of an initial investigation. As the incident involved a single-vehicle crash, coupled with the medical condition of the driver and the statement provided by the passenger of the vehicle, no citations were issued."Stay with WDSU on this developing story.

"I'm fine, my son is fine, and the police report speaks for itself,” Richmond said.

Richmond suffered injuries to his hand, head and hip in the crash and is doing OK.
