New Orleans will get more storms with hotter days ahead

We'll keep storms in the mix all the way through the rest of the week as high temps rise into the lower 90s

BEHIND ME TRYING TO CATCH MAYBE SOME OF THE LIGHTNING STRIKES. BUT WE’LL SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHERE THE STORM IS. THERE’S JUST A FEW OF THESE VERY ISOLATED IN NATURE, BUT THAT ONE THAT’S BEEN PRODUCING LIGHTNING AND I TWEETED THIS OUT ABOUT AN HOUR AGO, HAS ACTUALLY PRODUCED A LOT OF LIGHTNING. WELL AWAY FROM THE CENTER OF THE STORM. AND THE CUMULONIMBUS PART OF IT, YOU CAN SEE AS YOU GET NEAR LAFITTE HERE, YOU GET OUTSIDE OF THERE, IT IS GOLDEN MEADOW GALLIANO. YOU GOT THAT STORM SLOWLY DRIFTING YOUR WAY. NOT A WHOLE LOT OF SPEED TO IT. BUT LOOK AT ALL THE LIGHTNING STRIKES HERE. JUST ABOUT WELL, LOOK AT THAT, 12 OF THEM OVER THE LAST FIVE AND TEN MINUTES. BUT GALLIANO, YOU GOT A LIGHTNING STRIKE AND GOLDEN MEADOW RIGHT OVER YOU. NOT OVER THE STORM. BUT THAT’S ONE STORM. WE HAD A LITTLE ONE NEAR NAIRN A LITTLE WHILE AGO. THAT’S FADING. AND A COUPLE MORE ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THE MORE MARSHES OUT OR BAYOUS THERE OF PLAQUEMINES PARISH, BUT STILL NOT A WHOLE LOT OF ACTIVITY TONIGHT, BUT WE STILL HAVE A SLIM CHANCE. WE COULD SEE AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR TWO EARLIER STORMS TODAY. IN SOME CASES. LOOK AT SAINT JOHN, THE BAPTIST PARISH, FOUR INCHES OF RAIN ESTIMATED TO FALLEN IN NEAR KENNER AND METAIRIE, MAYBE NEAR TWO INCHES OF RAIN. AND A LOT OF THAT CAME AT ABOUT MID-MORNING TO MIDDAY, 84 WAS ONLY THE HIGH TODAY. WELL UNDER THE AVERAGE WITH MORE OF THE STORMS AND THE CLOUD COVER FOR A BETTER PART OF IT, YOU CAN SEE AT ARMSTRONG INTERNATIONAL, THOUGH, ONLY RECORDED 100TH OF AN INCH OF RAIN. AND WE ARE WELL BELOW AVERAGE ON THE RAINFALL. SO WE HAVE BEEN DRY. WE’VE GOTTEN IN SPURTS. WE’VE GOTTEN IN PLACES, BUT NOT EVERYWHERE. SOME HIGH TEMPERATURES DID GET CLOSER TO 90 TODAY. BUT THEN IT WAS JUST ONLY A COUPLE OF ISOLATED SPOTS. REAL TIME TEMPERATURES INTO THE 70S. BUT LET’S GET RIGHT TO OUR FORECAST BECAUSE, WELL, YOU KNOW, IT’S SUMMER AND YOU GOT MORE OF THIS TO COME. BUT YOU SEE THIS LITTLE SYSTEM THAT’S NOW ENTERED THE GULF AND WE’VE HAD THAT COUNTERCLOCKWISE FLOW WITH THE STORMS THAT WERE ONE TIME MOVING EAST TO WEST. NOW WE’LL BE MOVING NORTH TO SOUTH AS IT MOVES AWAY. AND I KNOW YOU MIGHT BE THINKING, A SYSTEM ENTERING THE GULF, IT’S HURRICANE SEASON. LISTEN, THERE’S NO WORRIES TO IT. I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU WHY WE DON’T EXPECT ANY DEVELOPMENT. BUT WE DO HAVE IN THE MEANTIME, THESE STORMS, THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY IN PLACE TO GIVE US MORE SCATTERED STORMS. MAYBE A STRONG WIND GUST IN SOME MAYBE SMALL HAIL. WE DID HAVE THERE IS WE GOT TO FELICIANA PARISH WEST FELICIANA EAST FELICIANA EARLIER TODAY WITH SOME REPORTS OF HAIL 60, 70 TO START OFF WEDNESDAY. AND WE DO IT AGAIN. BUT STORMS MOVING NORTH TO SOUTH, LET’S CALL THEM SCATTERED IN NATURE. LET’S GO ABOUT A 60% CHANCE. AGAIN, STRONG WINDS, MAYBE SOME SMALL HAIL. BUT I DO THINK MORE SUNSHINE, UPPER 80S FEELING MORE LIKE MID 90S. AND THEN IF YOU’RE OUT ON THE LOCAL WATERS TOMORROW, LOOK OUT FOR A STORM OR TWO. WE’VE REACHED A MAXIMUM TIDAL RANGE. WE DO IT AGAIN INTO THURSDAY. THE SAME THING WIDELY SCATTERED STORMS, MAYBE A FEW MORE AND MORE NUMEROUS. BUT LOOK AT TOP TEMPERATURES, 90 SINCE WE’RE FEELING MID TO UPPER 90. SO YOU SEE THE STORY GOING ON HERE. RAIN CHANCES START TO SLOWLY DROP OFF AND THOSE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING UP WITH THAT SYSTEM ENTERING THE GULF, YOU CAN SEE THE TOPS OF THE CLOUDS BEING BLOWN AWAY. SO THAT’S PRETTY STRONG WIND SHEAR TO IT. AND AS THIS SYSTEM KIND OF LINGERS AND DRIFTS A LITTLE BIT FARTHER SOUTH AND EAST, WE JUST DON’T SEE ANY ORGANIZATION TO IT. THIS IS WHY WE DON’T SEE ANYTHING TO IT HERE. AND IT’S EVEN MOVING AWAY FROM US, EVEN WITH WATER TEMPERATURES STILL RUNNING VERY, VERY WARM IN THE GREATER ATLANTIC FOR TROPICAL WAVES NOW SHOWING. BUT THESE CHARTS RIGHT ON THROUGH SOUTH AMERICA INTO THE PACIFIC, IT’S THE SYSTEM THAT’S WAY OVER CLOSE TO PORTUGAL AND SPAIN THAT HAS THE VERY SLIMMEST CHANCE OF ISOLATED DEVELOPMENT AND MAYBE OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS, THERE’S SOMETHING TROPICAL. IT’S NOT TROPICAL RIGHT NOW, BUT IT’S SO FAR AWAY FROM US, HAS NO EFFECT. SO REALLY, IT’S THE SUMMER PATTERN. THE DAYTIME STORMS. WATCH OUT FOR A STRONG WIND GUST, VERY HEAVY RAIN, LOCALIZED FLOODING CAN’T BE RULED OUT, BUT THE TEMPERATURES CREEPING UP TO THE 90S OVER THE WEEKEND AND ESPECIALLY INTO NEXT WEEK WITH HUMIDITY COULD AT TIME

New Orleans will get more storms with hotter days ahead

We'll keep storms in the mix all the way through the rest of the week as high temps rise into the lower 90s

Scattered storms should be anticipated each day for the remainder of the week, but highs will creep back up towards 90 and into the lower 90s by the weekend.Lows will be right where we've started the last two mornings, 60s for the Northshore and lower to mid 70s over the South Shore.Look for more storms to fire even by mid morning on Wednesday and through the afternoon. The strongest storms could contain gusty winds and small hail.Highs will be in the upper 80s but feel more like mid 90s.Thursday could be even hotter, but more scattered storms should be anticipated that could still bring some gusty winds and/or some small hail in the strongest storms.Look for highs in the low 90s but could feel more like upper 90s.Scattered storms will continue to fire up each day into the weekend, but by Sunday and the following week I see the mechanisms for bringing more scattered storms moving out, leaving just heat and humidity to bring us a very slight chance of an isolated shower or storm each day. As rain chances decrease by then, highs could tick up into the lower to mid 90s but feel more like 100 to the lower 100s!Now for a quick check on the tropics. A weak system over the Azores still has the bare minimum chance for possible development over the next few days but won't have any impact on us and is likely to bring bouts of heavy rain and gusty winds the the islands. Here's your seven day forecast: Stay cool, be safe, and have a nice night!- Devon
