New Orleans public pools hours will rotate for the summer time
New Orleans public pools are reopening for the summertime; however, pools will only be open on certain days.
It's been a challenge to keep pools open because of a national lifeguard shortage since the start of the pandemic. The plan is to open 11 pools for now and aim to reopen all 15 pools once all lifeguards are trained and staffed. The New Orleans Recreational Departments Commission's goal is to open all pools either full time or seasonal.
The pool schedule follows:
As of Monday, June 5, the following pools will operate Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., except the Treme Indoor Pool, which will only operate from 4-7 p.m.:
- Gert Town Indoor Pool – 3411 Broadway St.
- Joe W. Brown Indoor Pool – 5601 Read Blvd. (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
- Federal City Outdoor Pool – 2200 Constitution St. (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
- Sanchez Indoor Pool – 1616 Fats Domino Ave.
- Treme Indoor Pool – 900 N. Villere St. (Open to public at 4-7 p.m.)
These seasonal pools will open on a rotating basis as lifeguards are onboarded starting Thursday, June 8, and will operate Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
- A.L. Davis Outdoor Pool – 2600 LaSalle St.
- Lyons Center Outdoor Pool – 624 Louisiana Ave.

To attract more applicants, NORD is bumping their hourly pay to $16.71. They are also lowering the age for lifeguards to 15 years old with a work permit.
NORD is still accepting lifeguard applications here.
Pools will remain open until Labor Day.
