New Orleans under an Air Quality Alert again Wednesday

Ozone levels will be elevated today, so those with breathing issues should limit their time outside

23RD. IT IS A NICE BUT WARM EVENING OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW. WE’VE GOT A GOOD BIT OF CLOUD COVER OUT THERE. HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY REACHED 90 DEGREES AT THE AIRPORT. NORMALLY THIS TIME OF YEAR, WE’RE RIGHT NEAR 88. SO JUST SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN NORMAL. NOWHERE NEAR OUR RECORD, THOUGH, OF 96 DEGREES, WHICH WAS SET BACK. IN 1951. TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, STILL SITTING AT 88 DEGREES IN BOGALUSA, 86, GALLIANO 83. BELLE CHASE 85 AT THE LAKEFRONT. WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF OZONE STILL HOLDING ON TO FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT WE DO HAVE THAT AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, WHICH MEANS IF YOU HAVE SOME TROUBLE BREATHING, YOU YOU DON’T WANT TO SPEND ANY EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME OUTSIDE. THIS EVENING MIGHT BE A BIT DIFFICULT TO BREATHE ON RADAR. WE ARE MOST DRY ACROSS OUR AREA. I AM WATCHING A LITTLE BIT OF SHOWER ACTIVITY ON THE SOUTH SHORE. SO NOTICE WE HAVE VERY ISOLATED SHOWERS POPPING UP ON EITHER SIDE OF THIBODAUX, GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE GULF THROUGH TERREBONNE PARISH. SO WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR THAT LIGHT SHOWER ACTIVITY ON THE NORTH SHORE, MAINLY DRY AS WELL. PERHAPS JUST A FEW SMALL SHOWERS OUT THERE IN SAINT TAMMANY THAT WILL KEEP AN EYE ON. SAME FOR OUR MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES AS WELL. JUST A FEW ISOLATED LIGHT SHOWERS. MOST OF US STAY DRY THIS EVENING, BUT I AM GOING TO KEEP AN EYE ON THAT RAIN OUT TO OUR EAST. NOTICE HERE THE RAIN MOVING OVER ALABAMA. PARTS OF THE PANHANDLE DOWN INTO THE GULF. WE’LL SEE IF ANY OF THIS CAN WRAP INTO OUR AREA OVERNIGHT TONIGHT OR INTO TOMORROW, TOMORROW MORNING AND TOMORROW AFTERNOON, BECAUSE IT’S ALL ASSOCIATED WITH THAT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE GULF, WHICH IS BRINGING A LOT OF RAIN TO PORTIONS OF THE FLORIDA PENINSULA RIGHT NOW. NOW, THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER GIVES THIS LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ONLY A 20% CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT. AND NOTICE HERE HOW IT LOOKS LIKE A BIG BLOB OVER THE GULF. THAT’S BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO MEANDER SLOWLY OVER THE COMING DAYS. IT’S NOT A DIRECT THREAT TO US. IT’S REALLY NOT A DIRECT THREAT TO ANYONE. AND AGAIN, THE CHANCE OF IT ACTUALLY FORMING INTO A NAME STORM LOW. SO THANKS TO WIND SHEAR HERE, IT IS JUST SLOWLY MEANDERING IN THE GULF. ALL THE WAY THROUGH FRIDAY. SO TONIGHT IT COULD BRING SOME RAIN TO PARTS OF OUR AREA. OTHER THAN THAT, THOUGH, WILL BE A PARTLY CLOUDY AND MILD NIGHT LOWS, ANYWHERE FROM 65 TO 75 DEGREES. THEN TOMORROW, A PARTLY CLOUDY DAY RAIN, CHANCES ARE A LITTLE BIT HIGHER. I’M GOING WITH A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN. WE’LL SEE IF ANY OF THAT RAIN AND THAT HEAVY RAIN MOVES TOWARDS OUR AREA BECAUSE OF THAT LOW SITTING IN THE GULF. OTHER THAN THAT WILL BE WARM WITH THE LIGHT BREEZE ACROSS MOST OF OUR AREA, BUT IT WILL BE BREEZY HERE CLOSER TO THE COAST, ALSO ALONG THE COAST. THAT’S WHERE WE HAVE OUR HIGHEST CHANCE OF HEAVY RAIN TOMORROW. THEN THAT SYSTEM AGAIN WILL MOVE SOUTH AND SOMEWHAT SOUTHEAST AND AWAY FROM US. SO WHEN IT COMES TO OUR RAIN CHANCES, TOMORROW, I CAN’T RULE OUT SOME POCKETS OF HEAVIER RAIN. AND I AGAIN AM ONLY GOING WITH A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN. NOT EVERYONE WILL SEE RAIN TOMORROW. WE JUST DO HAVE THAT POSSIBILITY THANKS TO THAT SYSTEM THAT WE ARE WATCHING. RAIN CHANCES THEN DROP ON FRIDAY DOWN TO 10% AND SATURDAY, THAT’S WHERE THEY STAY. SUNDAY. NOT TOO BAD. LOOKS LIKE RAIN. CHANCES MIGHT START TO RISE JUST A LITTLE BIT. BUT FOR NOW, I’M GOING WITH ONLY 20% ON SUNDAY. SO AS WE STAY DRIER FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND, OUR TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO WARM UP. I THINK WE’LL BE NEAR 90 ON FRIDAY. AND THEN I THINK WE WILL MOVE INTO THE 90S ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. NOW, TOMORROW IS JUNE 1ST, THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH, AND THE OUTLOOK FROM THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE. WELL, THEY SAY THAT WE HAVE A CHANCE OF SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF JUNE AND THAT’S HOW IT WILL BE LINING UP WITH TEMPERATURES SITTING IN THE LOWER 90S. AGAIN, NORMALLY WE’RE RIGHT NEAR 88 DEGREES. I THINK WE COULD B

New Orleans under an Air Quality Alert again Wednesday

Ozone levels will be elevated today, so those with breathing issues should limit their time outside

Another air quality alert is in effect today for parts of our area. This means that ozone levels are unhealthy for sensitive groups, including people with respiratory diseases (like asthma), older people, or children and adults who are active outside. Those at risk should avoid prolonged outdoor activity this afternoon. This includes St. John The Baptist, St. Charles, Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has forecast an Ozone Advisory Day for the most densely populated areas of southeast Louisiana. Elevated levels of ozone could be hazardous to those with breathing issues or concerns such as asthma and COPD to name a few.Plenty of sun, light winds, and a hot day will all contribute to the creation and collection of ozone. If you are someone who is very sensitive to poor air quality, limit your time outside, especially during the hottest parts of the day.Be sure to stay with WDSU online and on air for all the latest on this information.
