Man who was shot while breaking into Cumberland County home has been charged: police

A man who a New Cumberland homeowner shot during a break-in earlier this month is now facing charges, police said.

Elvin M. Blanco, 49, of Harrisburg, was shot May 14 on the 300 block of Second Street in New Cumberland when he forced his way into a home and threatened the homeowner, according to police. The homeowner has not been charged.

Blanco fled the scene after he was shot, police said. He was found near Sixteenth and Bridge streets and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The break-in did not appear to be a random incident, police said.

Police said Blanco was arraigned Thursday on charges of burglary, trespassing, terroristic threats and DUI.

Online court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 24 in front of Magisterial District Judge Christopher Delozier.
