Rutgers reserve forward Oskar Palmquist entered the transfer portal on Friday, according to Verbal Commits. He has two more years of eligibility remaining.

Palmquist is the second Scarlet Knight to explore a transfer this offseason after reserve guard Jalen Miller entered the transfer portal earlier this week.

A three-star recruit in the class of 2020, Palmquist played sparingly throughout his time with the Scarlet Knights. He averaged 7.2 minutes per game in 48 appearances across three seasons, scoring 1.7 points on 35.6% shooting (36.8% on twos, 35.2% on threes, 56.3% on free throws) and grabbing 1.1 rebounds per contest.

After enrolling in the second semester of the 2019-20 season, the Sweden native played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman the following fall, averaging five minutes per contest. He played in 15 games as a sophomore, and struggled to carve out a role for much of his junior season outside of a breakout game in a blowout win over last-place Minnesota.

But when starting forward Mawot Mag went down with a season-ending knee injury, Palmquist was called up to fill in some of his minutes. The junior averaged 2.7 points on 37% shooting (66.7% on twos, 33.3% on threes) and grabbed 1.1 rebounds in 13 minutes per game across the final 11 contests of the season.

Palmquist joins Miller and fifth-year senior Caleb McConnell, who exhausted his eligibility this season, as players who will not be on next season’s roster.

The Scarlet Knights now have one open scholarship for the upcoming 2023-24 season, as 2023 commits Baye Ndongo and Jamichael Davis are projected to take two slots when they sign their national letters of intent in April.

If center Cliff Omoruyi, who on Thursday announced he was testing the NBA Draft waters, does not return to school, the Scarlet Knights will have two open scholarships for next season.

Here is Rutgers’ current projected roster makeup entering the 2023-24 season, assuming Omoruyi does return (labeled by years of eligibility remaining):

1 year - Paul Mulcahy (G), Aundre Hyatt (G), Cam Spencer (G)

2 years - Cliff Omoruyi (C), Dean Reiber (F), Mawot Mag (F).

3 years - Derek Simpson (G), Antwone Woolfolk (F), Antonio Chol (F)

4 years - Gavin Griffiths (F), Baye Ndongo (F), Jamichael Davis (G)
