    Environmental advocates and elected officials are calling for more local input on a waste transfer station proposed in the New Bedford Business Park. The South Coast Renewables' facility would process up to 1,500 tons of municipal solid waste per day, including construction and demolition waste, from its proposed 100 Duchaine Blvd. location.

    New Bedford wins multimillion-dollar deal with MBTA over land taken for rail stations

    The city has reached a $3.5 million settlement agreement with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for land the agency acquired by eminent domain to build the downtown passenger rail station.

    The agreement comes after more than a year of negotiations, and four years after the MBTA executed the first of five land-takings to obtain space to build a passenger rail station, train layover site, and an additional parking area in the Whale’s Tooth parking lot on Acushnet Avenue, according to a press release.

    A parking mishap led to an SUV crashing into a Maple Street home on July 26.

    Byron Ford Ford, who normally sits on his porch in the evenings, decided not to on Friday when the driver of an SUV was parallel parking and hit the accelerator instead of the brake. No one was hurt.

    For New Bedford native, Olivia “Liv” Rodrigues, basketball runs through her blood.

    Her mother, Tiffany Goodine-Rodrigues , was a Hall of Fame player at New Bedford High in the late 1990s.

    Liv Rodrigues is well on her way to making a name for herself on the basketball court. She recently announced her commitment to play at Providence College next year.
