A 75-year-old man vacationing from Bismarck, N.D., apparently drowned at Starlight Bay Resort on Eighth Crow Wing Lake in Nevis Township.

Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes reported a call of a possible drowning at 5:57 p.m. on May 30, where the caller said his father had fallen in the lake and was unconscious.

Deputies and emergency personnel responded, and upon arriving deputies found several Nevis First Responders providing medical care to the victim who was now on shore. Deputies spoke to 48-year-old Shane Delmore of Boston, who advised that he and his father, William Delmore, had been fishing on the dock. Shane went into their cabin to use the restroom and when he returned, found his father lying face down in the lake.

Shane Delmore jumped into the water and attempted to pull his father to shore. With the assistance of another individual, they were able to get the victim out of the water and onto the beach. Medical personnel from North Ambulance arrived on scene and pronounced William deceased.

The incident is being investigated by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
