Google announced a $150,000 donation to the Food Bank for the Heartland on Tuesday morning.The investment will help the nonprofit fight food insecurity in Nebraska and western Iowa.“We are beyond grateful for Google’s support in the fight against hunger. It will make a lasting impact on neighbors making unthinkable decisions right now, as the cost of everyday essentials continues to rise,” Brian Barks, president and CEO of Food Bank for the Heartland, said in a statement.The donation from Google will provide up to 600,000 meals to the community, according to the Food Bank.“Nebraskans take care of each other, and Food Bank for the Heartland and Google working together to serve families struggling with food insecurity will strengthen our city’s future,” Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said in a statement. “Like the team from Google today, Omahans continue to volunteer, donate food and funds, and support the 1 in 10 individuals who are facing food insecurity throughout the Heartland.” Google data center employees from Nebraska and Iowa, along with Stothert, Papillion Mayor David Black and Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh, also volunteered at the Food Bank on Tuesday.Get the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
