ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Nassau County police officer was injured during a lengthy foot chase for a suspect early Thursday, police said.
Police said Tiyana Oates, 23, was in the back of a blue KIA on Park Avenue in Roosevelt that did not have a valid New York State inspection sticker.
After the cops stopped the car, they discovered that Oates had a valid open case for a still-unclear prior incident.
Officers attempted to arrest Oates, but the suspect fought, flailing their arms and legs before fleeing the scene on foot, according to police.
Oates allegedly ran toward their Park Avenue home, and one of the officers attempted another arrest, but he collapsed and injured his hand and both knees.
The suspect, meanwhile, refused to exit the home.
Oates ultimately tried to escape again — this time through a window and onto the roof.
An NYPD Emergency Service Unit team rescued Oates from the roof and arrested them.
The officer and Oates were both hospitalized.
It was unclear whether anyone else was in the Kia or was facing charges.
Police said Oates is charged with assault, obstruction of government administration, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
