Successful water rescue on the St. Marys River

NCSO marine unit helps rescue couple and their dog.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A marine unit with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office helped make a successful water rescue of a couple and their dog on Monday.

The unit, with help from Nassau County Fire Rescue. responded to the St. Marys River on Mon., Mar. 20 to help a couple and their dog who had been stranded for over four hours.

The couple told deputies they were leaving Cumberland Island to return to St. Mary’s when they rain into motor issues on their boat.

The marine unit was able to perform the successful rescue and the couple was treated for mild hypothermia. They were taken back to downtown St. Marys along with their pup.
