NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police released the body camera footage from Det. Donovan Coble, the officer injured after being shot by a man in Donelson Thursday afternoon, and SWAT Officer Tim Brewer, the officer who later found the suspect in a brush pile before shooting him.

Coble and his partner responded to the 500 block of Donelson Pike just before 3 p.m. after they received a report of an armed man breaking into vehicles at The Parking Spot near Nashville International Airport, according to police.

In the body camera video, Coble and his partner arrive at the location and chase after the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Delama Casimir, after they ordered him to show them his hands. Casimir then ran from the officers and hopped over a wooden fence.

The officers hopped the fence as well and followed Casimir, chasing him into what appeared to be the backyard of a home while ordering him to stop. During the chase, Metro police reported Casimir pointed a .380 semi-automatic pistol over his shoulder in Coble’s direction and fired, hitting Coble in the side. Casimir then ran into a heavy brush pile behind the home. Police said they believe Casimir was wounded as Coble returned fire.

After being shot, Coble appeared to stumble to the ground briefly before getting up and running to a responding officer’s SUV. He got into the SUV and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Coble was also heard calling dispatch as he got into the SUV, saying he was shot in the ribs.

Coble, a four-year MNPD veteran, is currently listed in critical-stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the police department.

A SWAT tactical team found Casimir in a brush pile behind a home on Upshaw Drive at around 3:30 p.m.

Brewer, as shown on his body camera footage, was clearing a section of the foliage when he saw Casimir in the brush. Brewer then shouted commands to Casimir and reported seeing the pistol Casimir shot Coble with earlier.

Police said Brewer perceived a gunshot and shot Casimir. SWAT officers rendered aid to him before he was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and into surgery.

Casimir died just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

The police department said Brewer, 42, is a 16-year MNPD veteran.
