For the first time, we are hearing the chilling calls the shooter’s former teammate made just moments before Audrey Hale killed six people.
This three-minute phone call gives us some insight into the help Averianna Patton was trying to get.
Six innocent lives were taken after the shooter, 28-year-old Hale, went inside the Covenant School.
Minutes before, Patton says she received multiple messages from the suspect.
Patton called the Suicide Prevention Hotline, but she says the hotline told her to call the Sheriff’s Department since staff can only help if the person calling is suicidal.
Deputies told her to call the non-emergency dispatch number. In the call, you can hear Patton say she received “weird” messages from a former teammate on Instagram, expressing how Hale could be suicidal.
The dispatcher says since there’s no address, they wouldn’t be able to do anything at that exact moment.
A spokesperson for Metro Police says while the dispatcher answered the call, officers arrived at the Covenant School and entered the building.
FOX 17 News has also tried to get some answers from the Suicide Prevention Hotline on protocol when someone is calling on behalf of someone else.
While no one has been able to provide an answer, the website encourages friends and loved ones to reach out for help to find out what resources are available in the area.
Around the same time, dispatchers received more than twenty 911 calls related to the active shooter.
The Suicide Prevention Hotline provided FOX 17 News with the following statement:
Loved ones, friends, and family members can absolutely call the line for someone they are worried about, and we want ensure that people know this is a service that meets that need. We are still investigating what happened at the for that particular call, to get a better understanding of the contact.
