Sports have always been a way to bring people together, and now as the Nashville community continues to mourn the Covenant School tragedy, Nashville's sports teams are trying to help.
The Nashville Predators faced the Boston Bruins Tuesday night at TD Garden, where both teams wore decals with the logo of the Covenant School. After the Predators' 2-1 win, captain Roman Josi dedicated the victory to all those affected by the tragedy.
"We're not going to give this to a player," said Josi holding up the Preds' game helmet. "We're going to put it on the table and just be thinking of the families that were affected and first responders, and just everyone else that was affected. This is for Nashville and we will continue to pray for everyone that was affected by this tragedy."
Vanderbilt University donated the ticket proceeds from Tuesday night's baseball game against Lipscomb to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee benefitting the Covenant School.
The Tennessee Titans also stepped up to support the Covenant community with a large donation. A source tells FOX17 Sports Director Jill Jelnick that the team's controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk and the NFL are donating $100,000 to the "Caring for Covenant" fund, part of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
