Nashville, Tennessee, investigators have not uncovered any evidence to support the notion that Covenant School shooter Audrey Hale had any specific problems with the school. Officials continue to search for a possible motive for the mass shooting that left three children and three adults dead.
Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake told CNN that police officers met with Covenant School officials and Hale’s parents and have not discovered anything pointing to complications that Hale had with the school. It was earlier stated that the shooter may have carried a “sense of resentment” toward the school.
“As of right now, we don’t have any indication there was any problems at the school or at home,” Drake said. “We can’t confirm any type of problems at this time.”
Hale, a 28-year-old biological female who identified as transgender, entered the Covenant School on Monday morning and proceeded to the second floor. Hale shot at random victims before two officers fatally shot Hale. The shooter was brought down 14 minutes after the initial 911 call.
The student victims are Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all age 9. The adult victims are Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.
Former Covenant headmaster Bill Campbell said Hale attended the school as a third grader in 2005 and a fourth grader in 2006, but his records indicate Hale transferred before fifth grade.
“I’ve looked back in my annuals, and I do remember her as a former student,” Campbell said. “She was just one of our young ladies. … She was just a typical co-ed, a typical student.”
“I think about this student and our relationship at the time she was there; there was nothing extraordinary and unusual,” the former school administrator added. “She was loved and appreciated like all of our students.”

Drake said on Tuesday that Hale was being treated by a doctor for an “emotional disorder.” Hale’s parents were unaware of the seven firearms that Hale had purchased legally. Drake said the parents only knew of one weapon, and they thought Hale had sold it. Hale entered the Covenant School with two assault-style weapons and a handgun.
The Covenant School shooting is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, in May 2022 that left 19 students and two teachers dead.
