Senator Josh Hawley is calling for a "full hate crime investigation" after a shooter killed three students and three staff members at a Christian school in Tennessee.
The incident took place at The Covenant School, a private Christian School in Nashville for preschool through 6th grade.
Police spokesperson Don Aaron said in a news conference on Tuesday the department does not believe the victims were targeted but "this school, this church building" were.
"The federal law makes the crime any kind of violence against people on the basis of their religious affiliation," Senator Hawley tells The Marc Cox Morning Show. "This is a religious school, so it is a hate crime."
