Family of 9-year-old Evelyn Dieckhaus releases statement after Nashville shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The family of a nine-year-old girl shot dead at school Monday morning has released a statement.

Evelyn Dieckhaus was one of six victims gunned down at The Covenant School in Green Hills. Her family released a statement obtained by CNN, saying they are heartbroken and "cannot believe this happened."
"Our hearts are completely broken. We cannot believe this has happened. Evelyn was a shining light in this world. We appreciate all the love and support but ask for space as we grieve." -The Dieckhaus Family
Five others were killed when 28-year-old Audrey Hale carried three guns and "significant ammunition" into the school and opened fire. Metro Police officers responded within 14 minutes, killing the shooter on the second floor of the school building.
