Things got a little heated during this morning’s episode of The View when Whoopi Goldberg cut off Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was giving her stance on gun reform following Monday’s (March 27) mass shooting at a Christian private school in Nashville, Tenn., which left six people dead, including three children.

Griffin — the only Republican at the table — told the panel during the Hot Topics segment that she refuses to “believe that our leaders are so inept that they cannot find a way to balance constitutional rights with keeping kids safe,” before adding that she “fundamentally believes in legal, responsible gun ownership.”

Griffin pointed out that 92% of Americans support background checks as she went on to say that she was “heartened” by words from Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat whom she agrees with on “virtually nothing.”

“He said, ‘OK, if we can’t move an assault weapons ban, I would be willing to say why don’t we put in place trainings, background checks, mental health screenings to be able to have one,'” Griffin revealed, before Goldberg chimed in asking, “Why are we compromising?”

She continued, “I don’t mean to be rude to you, to cut you off. I am tired of trying to find a way to justify you being able to keep 75 guns in your house.”

Goldberg added that “we need to know” when people own a multitude of guns because they are now being “painted with the same swab as the people who are killing people left and right with legal guns.”

Meanwhile, Griffin noted, “We will be talking about this issue forever if we start from a place of, ‘We have to get all guns off the street,'” prompting a fired-up Goldberg to hit back yet again as she said, “No, it’s not get all guns off the street. I don’t have a tank. I can’t go buy a tank.”

The moderator went on to further explain her stance on the issue in an impassioned speech.

“I don’t say, ‘Give up all your guns.’ I don’t know why you have to have 5,011 of them, but maybe you do,” she said. “But I want to know that you’ve got them. Because I want to be sure that I know what’s going on in my periphery.”

Goldberg — who said armed guards in schools don’t work — continued, “These are our kids. They might not be your kids, but they’re my kids. They’re your kids. They’re somebody’s kids. What the hell?”
