Jersey numbers for Tennessee football’s newcomers, including the freshman class headlined by five-star freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava and the Vols’ new crop of transfers on the updated spring football roster:

10 — Gabe Jeudy-Lally | Redshirt Senior, Defensive Back, 6-2, 185

Jeudy-Lally had 47 tackles and seven passes deflected in 13 games at BYU this season, finishing with 31 solo tackles and 16 assisted tackles. He started his collegiate career at Vanderbilt in 2021, playing in 12 games for the ‘Dores, recording 50 tackles — 35 solo, 15 assists — with one pass deflected.

11 — Dont’e Thornton | Junior, Wide Receiver, 6-5, 205

Thornton caught 17 passes for 366 yards and a touchdown in 11 games at Oregon last season. He had nine receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns in four games at Oregon as a freshman in 2021.

12 — Nico Iamaleava | Freshman, Quarterback, 6-6, 205

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “High-upside signal caller who has the best physical tools among quarterbacks in the 2023 cycle as a high school prospect. Has one of the strongest arms in the cycle, generating considerable velocity on his throws in camp settings and on Friday nights.”

18 — Jordan Matthews | Freshman, Defensive Back, 6-2, 182

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Taller corner with plus track speed. Shows strong recovery ability with his terrific long speed. Ran a 10.66 second 100 meters mark and a 21.29 second 200 meters time during his junior track season. Willing tackler that can bring ball carriers down in the flat and in the open field.”

23 — Christian Conyer | Freshman, Defensive Back, 6-1, 180

23 — Cameron Seldon | Freshman, Running Back, 6-2, 215

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Return man, safety, inside linebacker, edge rusher, wide receiver and running back. The definition of a do-it-all athlete. Has the size and overall athletic ability to play multiple positions at the next level.”

25 — DeSean Bishop | Freshman, Running Back, 5-10, 195

26 — Jack Luttrell | Freshman, Defensive Back, 6-0, 180

31 — Caleb Herring | Freshman, Defensive Line, 6-5, 226

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Edge rusher that thrives in open space and flies to the football. Has an ideal frame with elite length at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds with a 35.25-inch arm. A fluid, natural athlete.”

33 — John Slaughter | Freshman, Defensive Back, 6-2, 195

34 — Rickey Gibson III | Freshman, Defensive Back, 6-0, 175

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Twitchy, athletic corner who shows a penchant for making plays on the ball in coverage. Measured at around 5-foot-11.5, 166 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length for the position with a 6-foot-4 wing-span.”

34 — McCallan Castles | Redshirt Senior, Tight End, 6-5, 223

Castles, the UC Davis transfer, was second-team All-Big Sky after catching 32 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. He had 27 catches for 363 yards and four touchdowns in 2021, after catching 12 passes for 194 yards in the COVID spring season in 2021.

38 — Jeremiah Telander | Freshman, Linebacker, 6-2, 223

39 — Jalen Smith | Freshman, Linebacker, 6-1, 223

41 — Keenan Pili | Redshirt Senior, Linebacker, 6-3, 238

Pili had 191 tackles in 34 career games at BYU, including 62 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks in 12 games this season. He had 13.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks during his time with the Cougars. 

47 — Arion Carter | Freshman, Linebacker, 6-1, 221

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Violent linebacker who plays with his hair on fire with every snap. Explodes on contact, possesses true stopping power.”

70 — Andrej Karic | Redshirt Junior, Offensive Line, 6-4, 340

Karic played 26 games over the last three seasons at Texas, making two starts last season while appearing in all 12 games.

71 — Vysen Lang | Freshman, Offensive Line, 6-4, 340

74 — Shamurad Umarov  | Freshman, Offensive Line, 6-7, 326

75 — John Campbell Jr.  | Redshirt Senior, Offensive Line, 6-5, 330

The offensive tackle out of Miami, started 11 times in 12 games for the Hurricanes last season. He made 17 starts in 33 career games at Miami over the previous four seasons.

85 — Nathan Leacock | Freshman, Wide Receiver, 6-3, 200

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Late-blooming receiver with a strong combination of size, length and straight-line speed. Has the traits and overall skill set to project as a high-end outside wide receiver at the next level.”

86 — Ethan Davis | Freshman, Tight End, 6-5, 228

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Pairs advanced coordination and ball skills with forward length. A natural hands catcher who can climb the ladder to high-point the ball in contested situations.”

90 — Max Gilbert | Freshman, Placekicker, 6-0, 193

93 — Daevin Hobbs | Freshman, Defensive Line, 6-4, 295

On3 High School Scouting Summary: “Nimble jumbo athlete who makes big plays as a tight end and defensive end, likely projecting along the defensive line long-term. Has good size, measuring at around 6-foot-3, 275 pounds with 34.75-inch arms.”

94 — Nathan Robinson | Freshman, Defensive Line, 6-6, 285

97 — Charles Campbell | Redshirt Senior, Placekicker, 5-9, 181

Campbell, the Indiana transfer, was No. 8 in Hoosier football history in field goals made with 37 and was 14th in career points, with 179. He kicked five field goals from 50 yards or farther at Indiana, including a career-best 55. 

98 — Omarr Norman-Lott | Redshirt Junior, Defensive Line, 6-3, 300 

Lott spent three seasons at Arizona State, using a redshirt year in 2020, then recording 45 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sack over the last two seasons. He had 14 tackles in nine games this year, with 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
