People who live and work in the Dickerson Pike area react to the vicious attack at a local laundromat.
It is outfitted with surveillance cameras on each wall and even has an attendant in at all times. However, that didn’t stop the attack on a customer who was standing there just waiting for his laundry.
People who live nearby are shocked to see what happened just days prior.
“I wasn’t going to come back today, but then I said no, I know God has my back,” Clara Sikpi said.
After seeing video of the attack, Sikpi questions why no one stepped in.
“My thought was why wasn’t anyone helping him? And maybe they were afraid to help him because he had that weapon, you know what I’m saying.“
FOX 17 News spoke with the laundromat attendant off camera. He says his son was working that night, but was making food in the back at the time of the attack. He says only one other customer was in the laundromat at the time. However, that man didn't step in as his young daughter (seen in the video) was inside the store as well.
One customer said, “I would’ve attacked the guy.” Two men who wish to remain anonymous, say the outcome would've been different had they been there.
One customer said, "If I was here I would’ve tried to stop it or defend the person. It wouldn’t have happened like it happened.”
FOX 17 News spoke with people out on the street and inside the laundromat, trying to get more information. We met a friend of the victim, who says the man repeatedly hit in the video comes to the laundromat every week.
