Spring sports season in full swing

Thank you for subscribing to The Bootleg, our high school sports newsletter. I'm Tennessean high school sports editor Tom Kreager.

We are in Week 2 of the TSSAA spring season — and the first week of post basketball season. Full disclosure: It's been hard to transition into baseball, softball, boys soccer, etc. The rain and cold temperatures combined with coming off of 68 state tournament basketball games (Division II, Division I boys and girls tournaments combined) makes it hard to think about home runs, no hitters and hat tricks.

But we have already released three of our high school spring sports previews.

High school sports writer George Robinson has put together our baseball, boys soccer and track and field watch lists. You can find out who are the top Nashville athletes to follow this season in these lists. Our softball watch list will be online early next week.

Wrapping up the high school basketball season

Nashville was snubbed in the Division I boys and girls state tournaments. No Midstate team won public school state tournaments.

However there were three teams that finished runner-up in Independence (Class 4A boys), Wayne County (Class 1A girls) and Livingston Academy (Class 3A girls).

We released our final high school boys basketball rankings this week with the conclusion of the TSSAA boys season. Brentwood Academy, which won the Division II-AA state tournament under first-year coach Andy Blackston, was our No. 1-ranked team in the Large Class rankings while DII-A state champion Goodpasture was the No. 1 team in the small class rankings.

Here's a reminder: If you aren't yet subscribing to The Tennessean, you can do so here. With an influx of spring sport content and high school spring football on the horizon, now is a great time to subscribe.
