Anthony Levine is back in Nashville as a new Tennessee Titans assistant special teams coach.

Levine, 35, who will work under special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman, was an outstanding defensive back for Tennessee State.

Levine recorded 129 career tackles and five interceptions as a four-year starter from 2006-09. He made the All-Ohio Valley Conference second team as a senior before going on to a 12-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers (2010-11) and Baltimore Ravens (2012-21).

Levine retired from the NFL on Jan. 26, 2022.

"I think Anthony will be an excellent coach," former TSU coach Rod Reed said. "He always was a student of the game and he played every position on defense other than defensive line in his career in Baltimore. There was a lot of respect for him there for his leadership, mentorship and the things that he did on the field. I've stayed in touch with Anthony over the years and I know the Ravens really valued what they had in him."

Levine, an Abbeville, Louisiana native, was an undrafted free agent who spent two seasons on the practice squad for the Packers before being signed by Baltimore where he became a co-captain after spending much of his career on special teams. He also made five starts at safety.

Levine played on two Super Bowl winning teams with the Ravens. He played in a total of 146 games, recorded 149 tackles, had two interceptions and forced four fumbles.

"He worked tirelessly to become one of the NFL's best special teams players, and he could always be relied upon to contribute at a high level on defense − no matter what role he was asked to play," Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said upon Levine's retirement.

Levine spent last season as a scout and assistant coach with the Ravens.

Levine was among three new assistants Titans coach Mike Vrabel added to his staff Monday. The others were Tom Quinn, who also will work with the special teams, and Matt Jones, who will work with the offensive line.

Like Levine, Jones also has ties to Tennessee having spent the last four seasons at UT Martin as as run-game coordinator, offensive line coach and tight ends coach.
