Man shoots himself in the foot during fight in Battle Creek
BATTLE CREEK — A 22-year-old woman is in jail and charges are pending against a 24-year-old man following a fight that prompted an accidental gunshot to the man’s foot. Battle Creek police responded to the 100 block of Magnolia Avenue for a report of people hearing gunshots in the area at 11:23 a.m. Tuesday. Dispatchers told police a man with a gunshot wound was already being taken to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital by personal vehicle.

The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and facilitated by Goodwill, is available to qualifying taxpayers who generally earn less than $64,000 a year in earned income; active and retired military members; persons with disabilities; and limited English-speaking taxpayers.

The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts has named Jennifer Cooley as its new Director of Museum Education and Community Engagement. Cooley, a Battle Creek native and Michigan State University graduate, comes to the KIA with more than 20 years of museum education and engagement experience. Before taking on her new position, Cooley’s previous role was as education and outreach manager at the State Historical Society of Iowa.
