NASHVILLE, Ind. – Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop, Nashville Town Manager Sandie Jones, and Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton are inviting the public to attend an announcement on Friday, March 24, at Nashville Town Hall, 200 Commercial Street, in Nashville. It will detail the next steps of working together in a bipartisan, cross-sector, multi-county effort to address climate change.
Friday’s event will begin at 11 a.m. and feature remarks by Town Manager Sandie Jones and Mayors Hamilton and Lienhoop. The event follows a joint gathering held last year that initiated a collaborative, cross-county approach to addressing climate change.
In October 2022, Mayors Hamilton and Lienhoop hosted the first-ever Regional Climate Convening, bringing together approximately 100 critical players from Bartholomew, Brown, and Monroe Counties from the private, nonprofit, educational, and government sectors. The half-day gathering addressed the challenges of climate change and explored preparation, adaptation, and mitigation measures. The two community foundations of Bloomington and Columbus areas helped sponsor the event.
The informative and participatory event included remarks by both Mayors and a keynote address by Executive Chairman of Cummins, Tom Linebarger, a private sector leader in climate change response. Three panels addressed distinct aspects of climate change, and the event concluded with a commitment to explore how to continue to collaborate on addressing the climate emergency.
