How's the air quality in your neck of the woods?

As a result of wildfires in Canada, cities and states in the northeastern part of the United States, like New York, are currently dealing with extreme air quality issues.

More than 100 million Americans have felt the impact of poor or hazardous air quality as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts into the United States.

Alerts have been issued from New England to the Southeast, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The severity of the poor air quality led to two Major League Baseball games being postponed − one in New York and one in Philadelphia, and there's been an impact on airports and flights in that region.

The good news? If you live in Naples, or pretty much anywhere in Florida, there is nothing to worry about − for now. As of Thursday, June 8, the air quality in Naples, according to the Air Quality Index Map, showed the color green, which, on the map's legend signifies "good" quality.

You will notice across the state, especially on the East Coast, there are some locations in yellow, which indicate moderate air quality issues.

Smoke from wildfires can irritate eyes, too

Florida Forest Service crew observe during a prescribed burn at Picayune Strand State Forest in Collier County on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. Some of the goals of the burn include helping Florida slash pine regeneration and growth, cypress tree protection and improving wildlife foraging. It also improves wildfire safety by reducing hazardous fuel buildup.
  • Naples and the surrounding areas are prone to wildfires every spring.
  • Those with contact lenses might see them more dried out, meaning a higher likelihood for irritation.
  • Make sure you have your saline solution, you are cleaning them out.
