NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At last night’s City Council meeting, Naperville’s mayor defended his meeting with the Chicago Bears last week about a potential move there instead of Arlington Heights.

Mayor Scott Wehrli started the meeting with an update about the meeting he and an economic development organization had with the Bears President. He told other city council members and the public that such talks are standard.

"However, these conversations are just that. They're conversations," he said. "No development proposal was submitted to the city. No incentives were discussed, requested, or offered by either party in these meetings. No decisions have been made at anyone at City Hall."

The comments come after Councilmen Ian Holtzhauer posted to Facebook that he had no part in a letter claiming to be on behalf of the city of Naperville and questioned if bringing the team would result in higher sales taxes like Chicago imposed to renovate Soldier Field.
