Woman lost $73k life savings trying to buy new pool – she ‘gave benefit of the doubt’ but others face ‘same nightmare’
A WOMAN lost her life savings while doing home renovations and it was later revealed she wasn't the only victim.
Rene Milone of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was trying to complete her pool and hired Cascade Custom Pools as her contractors.
"I was hoping to give Cascade Pools the benefit of the doubt when I kept getting the promises to complete our pool, but apparently I waited too long," she told CBS affiliate WBTW-TV.
Milone said she signed a contract with the company in June 2023 but her family has been left with a shell in the ground "and a total mess in our backyard."
"Almost a year now. We have paid them $73,000 to date," Milone said, adding that she has been "scammed out of our live savings."
Milone said she's hoping to raise enough money to find another company to finish with the pool.

However, several other families say they had similar experiences with Cascade Custom Pools, losing a combined total of $422,000.
Brandy Rogerson told the outlet she was "ripped off" by the company, paying over $30,000 to get someone else to supply equipment that they never received and fix mistakes that Cascade allegedly made.
"We contracted with them in November 2022 and had paid all but $3000 of our $114,000 contract," she said.
Rogerson filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs after receiving a letter from Cascade that her contract couldn't be fulfilled.
Cascade said they would work out a repayment plan to return the money to Rogerson, however, she says she hasn't received a cent.
A man said he had an "unbelievable" experience with the company.
"Going on two years and they still have not completed it," Brad Maloch said of the project he had the company work on.
"This entire process has been terrible. They keep stringing me along, promising to make things right."
Maloch claims the company did the wrong pool design, destroyed 40 feet of his seawall, and ran through his fence with a tractor.
"Everything they have done has been redone and had an inoperable motor from day one which I just got warrantied out," he added.
"I’m still missing pavers and my infinity edge does not work correctly."
On the company website, Cascade Custom Pools has described itself as the No. 1 pool builder in Myrtle Beach.
